How does a consultation work?

A consultation at the most basic level is a conversation. We can focus on:

  1. your writing
  2. your goals as a writer
  3. what you want to do with either a current or future story

A consultation can be a live, interactive manuscript evaluation. If you send the manuscript to me and ask for a consultation about whether it fits the genre or is a complete story, I’ll make comments in the file and then spend the hour talking to you about the nuances while pointing to various parts of your story in screenshare.

Other consultations can be like an interactive copy edit. If you send a troubling scene to me, I will edit it based on the problem/question you’re having. Then in the live consultation hour, I’ll go over what edits I made and why, thinking aloud and teaching you about the aspect of #StoryCraft or #grammar or #genre involved.

A consultation can be a brainstorming and plotting session. In those I function like a sounding board, where you and I hash out the plot points to an idea you have. It can help flesh out a small idea into the big meaningful thing you really want it to be.

All consultations are recorded for you to re-watch at your leisure.
