All through December, I’m going to do some reflection. In prepping my business for 2023, I’m looking into the different things I’m doing here and evaluating my efforts, the different activities’ effectiveness for promoting both my authors and my services and sharing my expertise about writing, revising, and editing.

First I want to reflect about the client promo page. The 2022 page will be archived and a new 2023 page started. But I definitely think there’s room for improvement. My second full year doing editing full time has seen a bumper crop of my clients’ incredible stories reach publication. In 2021, I literally just listed them – text links. My “improvement” for 2022 was to add the book covers, create a gallery. The final count for all of 2022 is 29. Putting the covers and links there as they each came out became quite a task. It was also really disorganized. The book covers were simply added as they were published (oldest titles pushed toward the bottom). Sometimes this led to really weird formatting and look. But I fixed it.
I could just link people to my Goodreads “edited” category where I post the books with a non-starred review that mostly says “I edited this” with a few comments about what attracted me to the story. But that’s not really updating this site very often, keeping the content fresh to draw new clients.
I think I need to create a more searchable catalog in order to really promote my clients’ books. Possibly group books by author, tags, categories. That sounds like making a “bookstore”. I’d set it up to be searchable by criteria like genre tags. I’m still pondering the best course of action. If you have any ideas, be sure to shoot me a note.
